On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Austrian Library in Shkodra, the only one in Albania, various cultural activities were organized in the premises of University Library of Shkodra University. On 1st June it was organized the event titled "Open Doors Day" where teachers and students visited the library premises.
The documentary film titled "Österreich", part of the Austrian Library catalogue, a guide through the most beautiful places in Austria was shown on 3rd June. The film was shown in German language and lasted 52 minutes. It was a walk around the Austrian railway intertwined with the history of this country starting in Vienna and continuing further to Linz, Salzburg, Graz ect. The film was attended mainly by second year students of the Austrian School.
On June 4th, another documentary film titled "Plastic Planet" was shown in cooperation with the German language Department of the University of Shkodra. This documentary film is translated with subtitles in Albanian by the third year students of this Department under the leadership of Professor Sara Gurraj.
The final day of activities organized on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Austrian Library in Shkodra took place in "Walter Höflechner" room on 5th June. This activity was attended by the Austrian Ambassador in Albania, Mr. Thomas Schnöll, Pro-Rector of Shkodra University, Prof. as. dr. Fatmir Vadahi, the Director of the University Scientific Library, Mrs. Alida Luka, former rectors of the ShkodraUniversity, Prof. dr. Gjovalin Kolombi and Prof. dr. Mahir Hoti, Honorary Consul of Austria in Shkodra, Mr. Gjergj Leqejza and other guests, friends and associates of the Austrian Library in Shkodra.
Mrs. Oriona Zylja, the Head of the Austrian Library in Shkodra University, moderated the meeting. The opening speech was held by the pro-Rector. Prof.as.dr. Fatmir Vadahi, who appreciated the valuable activities of the Austrian Library in the University of Shkodra. He also made a brief historical overview of cooperation between Shkodra University and the University of Graz. Among the others he said: "From the very beginning, The Austrian library served and continues to serve as a strong scientific support resource with classical and contemporary literature for our students."
Prof. dr. Gjovalin Kolombi, one of the initiators of the agreements between the University of Shkodra with Graz University, Austria also welcome the activity and showed the first steps and foundation of these agreements. He also represented the steps of collaboration between the Department of German Language at Shkodra University in close cooperation with the Institute of the German language in Graz.
In his speech, Prof. dr. Mahir Hoti, who was acting as the Rector of Shkodra University when this Library was built in 2000, gave a description of that period including the time of construction of the new modern building of the University Library. This building was designed and furnished by the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria. All these facts were accompanied by photos and a film.
The Director of the Austrian School "Peter Mahringer" in Shkodra, Ms. GERLINDE Tagini, a continuing collaborative and strong supporter of the Austrian Library activity had her greeting speech.
This activity was also greeted by representative of the Ministry of European Integration and International Relations, Mrs. Sandra Diepenseifen, and Prof. Höflechner Walter, one of the first initiators of the relationship collaboration between the University of Shkodra and Austrian Universities.
The event ended with a visit to the premises of the Austrian Library.
