The results from the first Regional Summer School on Biodiversity (RSSB): Economic Valuation of Lake Ecosystem Services were presented at Conference Room of the Scientific Library of Shkodra University.
The official opening of the event and introduction to the objectives were done by:
Dr. Ralf Peveling, Team Leader, Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity at Lakes Prespa, Ohrid and Shkodra/Skadar (CSBL)
Dr. Taulant Bino, moderator and member of the supervisory team RSSB
Dr. Elira Hoxha, Prof. Ass. Dr. Danilo Mrdak, members of the supervisory team RSSB
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi" in her greeting said: “Summer schools do not serve only to specific issues but also to the socialization of the participants, especially when they belong to different nationalities”. At the end of her speech she invited the organizers to a greater cooperation between biologists and economists for a sustainable development of the area around Shkodra Lake.
Prof. dr. Marash Rakaj, Director of the Water Research Institute of Shkodra region at the University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi" noted that a good management of Shkodra Lake can be achieved through a better cross-border partnership.
The documentary film on RSSB by Genta Popa Prodani by Genta Popa was shown for the participants.
The meeting went on with the presentation of the results from the participants of RSSB with the following topics:
- Topic I: Economic value of a single biological resource
- Topic II: Economic evaluation of cultural services in the National Park of Skadar/ Shkodra Lake
- Topic III: The Evaluation of the Disease Regulation Service Provided by Skadar/Shkodra Lake
