The event was organized by the Office of Ombudsman in cooperation with representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
This meeting was held in the framework of the Danish government project for the institution of the Ombudsman.
Program of the meeting was as following:
Welcoming speeches:
Mr. Igli Totozani, the Ombudsman;
Mr. Robert Wilton, Deputy – chairman of the OSCE Presence in Albania.
Speakers:
Mrs. Felek Brahimi, representative of Shkodra Prefecture;
Mr. Besnik Cani, Shkodra Prosecution Chairman;
Mr. Lorenc Panganika, Director of District Police;
Mr. Sotiraq Nushi, assistant at the Ombudsman office.
Topics discussed were as following:
1. The phenomenon of vendetta and revenge in Albania, as well as social consequences that bring to isolated people and families as well as to the society as a whole.
2. The prevention of this phenomenon requires a close collaboration between authorities and civil society through a common strategy.
3. The effectiveness of the mechanisms of the police bodies and the prosecution, the detection and apprehension of all the culprits that encourage and create this serious phenomenon.
4. Educating the young generation in the spirit of tolerance and against the phenomenon of vigilantism, vendetta and revenge through educational programs. Special financial treatment and the role of teachers in areas where are located the isolated families in order to prevent this phenomenon.
5. Assistance offered to isolated families with insufficient income by relevant state structures in order to reduce poverty and unemployment.
