The International Workshop on the LHC, astrophysics, medical and environmental physics was organised on 06-08.10.2014 at Shkodra University. This workshop was a result of the collaboration among the University of Tirana, CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), French and Italian HEP community (CNRS-IN2P3, CEA-IRFU, INFN-Bari), French and Italian Embassy in Albania, Astrophysics community in Albania and the Balkan Environmental Association (BENA)
The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. as. dr. Adem Bekteshi who made a brief presentation of the conference and the participants.
Rector of Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi", Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi, said: "The organization of this workshop best serves to the promotion and development of the research process, which constitutes the fundamental challenge for higher education in general and to the University of Shkodra itself. I would also like to thank the organizing committee, the scientific committee, partner universities and organizations for their contribution in the field of science”.
Prof. Fokion Vosniakos, the President of Balkan Environmental Association (BENA) had his greeting speech.
The activity went by the speech titled "Science and Education in Albania", made by Prof. dr. Mimoza Hafizi,
Prof. Emmanuel Tsesmelis, made a presentation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Dr. Tadeusz Kurtyka had her speech titled: "CERN, the accelerator system and future development". The last two speakers explained in detail their presentations the experiment conducted at CERN "The Large Hadron Collider" which had been discussed around the world for a long time. This experiment attempts to explain the origin of mass predicted by the Higgs boson.
A special greeting to this scientific event was made by Mrs. Lindita Nikolla, Minister of Education and Sports. Within this scientific event, an important event was also the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The format of the workshop is composed of plenary sessions where the participants referred the most recent discoveries.
