In the framework of the administrative-territorial reform, the Minister of State for Local Government, Mr. Bledi Çuçi, delivered an opened lecture to students who are attending a master program at the University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi". This activity took place on 05/19/2015.
This acitvity was opened by the Pro-Rector of Shkodra University, Prof. as. dr. Fatmir Vadahi. Mr. Bledi Çuçi, Minister of State for Local Government, took the floor and said: “It is a great pleasure to participate in this open discussion with students of Shkodra University on the territorial administrative reform in Albania”.
At first he made a brief history of the most important moments of territorial division since the foundation of the state. He added: "Local government has undergone great changes since 1992 on wards. For such a work, European standards have influenced a lot in our work".
Mr. Çuçi further focused on the decentralization of governance issues in Albania. He elaborated stages of drafting administrative-territorial reform and the new map with 61 municipalities, ranging from the establishment of relevant structures, public consultation process, the preparation of a new map to the approval of the law. In the framework of the administrative-territorial division of local government in the Republic of Albania, the speaker also focused on the challenges of the current process of administrative and financial consolidation of local units, as well as the successful implementation of the reform with the aim to modernize the services for citizens and the local economical development.
This lecture served to students to better inform them about the changes that are being made and the steps being taken to strengthen the local government in Albania.
