The meeting on the problem of the isolated children due to the blood feud was held on 30th January 2014 in the conference room of the Scientific Library of Shkodra University. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports, University of Shkodra " Luigj Gurakuqi " and Shkodra Regional Educational Office. In this meeting there were present the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Lindita Nikolla, the Director of Shkodra Regional Education Office, Mrs. Erjeta Laçej , the Rector of Shkodra University, Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi and the Deans of the Faculties of this University.
The topic of this activity got the interest of the students and professors from the branches of Linguistics and Literature, Journalism, Law and Social Work. The meeting was opened by Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof.as.dr. Mimoza Priku who welcomed the Minister Nikolla.
Taking the floor, Ms. Lindita Nikolla said that she felt very comfortable in the auditorium of Shkodra University. She said: “Before talking on various issues that concern you, I would like to thank the initiators, professors, students and honoured citizens of Shkodra city who have launched the major initiative of eradicating the plague of blood feuds and isolation. I will be with you every time you invite me to talk about the ways of eradicating this social wound. We must enable the freedom of isolated children". She further stressed that the institution, she was working for, was working hard in order to change the situation and quality in Higher Education. She expressed her evaluation for Shkodra University, as a university of tradition but at the same time she expressed the concern on the quality of teaching for the students.
She also said: "Higher education should serve to the European future of Albania. Time does not wait and we have a new reality. We started our work with a clear agenda towards the reform of higher education". Mrs. Nikolla mentioned some of the steps taken so far to establish a committee in view of higher education reform and highlighted the work done so far for the accreditation process of public and private universities. She promised to have a new approach to the curricula. On the other hand she said that they were determined to weed out the corruption and keep university out of politics.
This meeting conceived as a debate and involved Mr. Gentian Doda, a student of Shkodra University and Mr. Ardi Hoti, an instructor at Journalism department who are members of the initiator group for conciliation and presented their experience so far in this great human initiative.
Later on the discussion was also focused on other problems related to the quality of teaching at universities. In this context, some professors and students of the Faculty of Law and Natural Sciences discussed on this topic.
The event was closed by the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms. Lindita Nikolla, who made a call in preserving the communication and transparency among them.
