Riga Summer School 2017 - Welcomes Applications

Riga, Latvia, March 14, 2017. – Call for applications for participation in Riga Summer School 2017 is now open. The Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia organizes this international summer school for students from all over the world in the Latvian capital from August 1 – 13, 2017. Some scholarships are available for students for participation in Riga Summer School 2017. The application deadline is 23:59 on May 20, 2017. This seventh edition of Riga Summer School will have two directions: traditionally for journalism, media and film students it will feature a hands-on documentary filmmaking program, which will focus on media and information literacy issues; and in parallel a program for information science and librarianship students and young professionals will be organized with emphasis on UN Agenda 2030 in Libraries and library contributions towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

In addition to lectures and workshops, the participants of the Riga Summer School will have an opportunity to work in small creative teams on their own creative short film projects. Media students will focus on creating short documentaries about media and information literacy in Riga, but librarianship students will work on creating audiovisual and visual materials on SDGs that can later be used by libraries. In addition, the summer school will also feature a rich social and cultural program for all participants in Riga and other locations in Latvia.

 

The participation fee for the Riga Summer School is 500 EUR, including tuition, accommodation, local travel and meals. Participation fee should be paid after receipt of confirmation on your acceptance into the program, which should be expected by the end of May. The transportation to and from Riga, Latvia is not included in this price. Information about scholarships can be found on the Riga Summer School website.
