Meeting titled: "Together against trafficking of human beings"

The meeting titled: "Together against trafficking of human beings" took place at the University Library, on 05/18/2015. The aim of this activity was to raise the awareness of the people in the struggle against trafficking of human beings. This activity was organised by the Embassy of Great Britain in Albania, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education and Sports, University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi", Shkodra District Police and the Shkodra Prefecture.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ms. Elona Gjebrea, who underlined the importance of the meeting on the phenomenon of trafficking of human beings. She said that there was needed an open conversation with students and professors on this topic. She also stressed that the trafficked victims were often girls who were university students.
The Ambassador of Great Britain in Albania, Mr. Nicholas Cannon OBE, said he was pleased to participate in that event and had the opportunity to talk about that problem which concerned not only Albania but also other Balkan countries. He said: "Criminal activity of trafficking human beings is a phenomenon that harms the image of your country and the integration process. We must work together to combat this illegal activity".
The Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Ms. Nora Malaj, focused on the role of universities in understanding this cause where everybody should be involved in solving it. She added: “The problem is multidimensional and requires a great attention from universities. This issue is directly related to higher education institutions by extensively treating the consequences and damages that it brings."
The Prefect of Shkodra District, Mr. Paulin Radovani, raised the concern that the problem has affected more girls and women from poor areas, so he appreciated the cooperation initiative which does not deny it but makes is transparent.
