The conference "La Via Egnatia: la via tra Oriente Occidente ed" was organized with the participation of Prof. Mario de Matteis on 24. 03. 2015

The Honorary Consulate of Italy in Shkoder in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi" and the Municipality of Shkodra city organized the conference titled: "La Via Egnatia: la via tra Oriente Occidente ed" with the participation of Prof. Mario de Matteis.
The Scientific activity was opened the by the Honorary Consul of Italy in Shkodra, Mr. Vito Stigliani, who highly appreciated the lecture offered by Prof. De Matteis. He said: "Egnatia Route" is an indication of the historical ties between Italy and Albania. At the same time this approach represents the continuation of these connections".
Mrs. Lejla Zorba greeted this conference on behalf of the Municipality of Shkodra city. Among the others she said: “The lecture offered by Prof. Mario de Matteis has awakened the interest of many participants”.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. as. dr. Mimoza Priku, stated that "Egnatia" worthily represents our history. She added: "During this lecture there will be presented new data for this ancient route".
Taking the floor, Prof. Mario de Matteis expressed his satisfaction that was addressing to the audience of students. He stated: “This participation recalls me a personal experience at German universities, where I taught for many years”.
During his speech there was noted that the description of the ancient “Egnatia” Route (Geographical map 1: Albanian part of Via Egnazia) and everything else that was close to it at whole length from Apollonia, Durres (Albania) to Ohrid (Macedonia). This awakened the interest to all those who wanted to expand their knowledge of historical features, architectural and cultural heritage in the Balkan territory. The description of the route was one of the Albanian contributions in the context of the International Festival-EGNAZIA Appia, conducted under the auspices of Italy, Albania, Greece and Turkey. There was prepared the documenting of those road segments that are still visited such as bridges or their tracks and places which were used to rest or change horses (mutationes) along roads from Durres and Apollonia to Ohrid in Macedonia.
The exhibition titled "La Via Egnatia" was opened on the same day, March 24, 2015, at 12:15. This exhibition was opened at Shkodra Municipality which will stay open until April 15, 2015.
