"Camaj among generations" - commemorative activity on the occasion of 90th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer Martin Camaj.

A commemorative activity on the occasion of 90th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer Martin Camaj, titled “Camaj among generations – I am yours and you are mine”, was organised on 5thJune, 2015. This activity took place at the Conference Hall (A3) of the Rectorate of Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi". It was organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Linguistics.
The activity was moderated by Head of the Linguistics Department, Prof. as .dr. Rrezarta Draçini. The Rector of Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi", Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi took the floor and said: "The University of Shkodra has organised many scientific and promotional activities for this personality and these activities are part of the efforts to ensure full knowledge of the work done my Mr. Camaj, as part of the Albanian literary tradition. The main goal of these activities was to discover and analyse the work and contributions of this author, many of which were untreated, ignored or interpreted unilaterally but not scientifically during the communist period or even by the literary Gheg opponents".
Mrs. Erica Camaj, Martin Camaj´s wife, shared her emotions with the audience. "Since I came for the first time in this country, 20 years ago, I felt like in my home town. Thank you for your friendship, which will last forever".
Prof. dr. Tomor Osmani referred his speech: "Camaj the 90th anniversary of the birth (1925-2015)". At the conclusion of this work Prof. Osmani said: "Martin Camaj remains an honourable and respected figure not only by the opinion of Shkodra, but from all over the Albanian culture. He was the master of the word and remained the same till nowadays".
Prof. dr. Alfred Capaliku also presented his work titled: "Similarities and differences between Ungaretit and Camaj".
The event went on with a short documentary on the life and work of Mr. Camaj. It was conceived by Prof. as .dr. Mimoza Priku, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Shkodra University.
Actors of "Migjeni” theatre, Mrs. Merita Smaja and Mrs. Rita Gjeka interpreted a poetic montage of Martin Camaj that was attended with emotions by the participants.
Mr. Martin Camaj (1925-1992) is known as a writer, a linguist and a philologist. He was born in Temal, Dukagjin. After primary school, he attended Saverian College in Shkodra and worked for a year as a teacher in the highlands of this area. In 1948, he escaped from Albania, placing first to former Yugoslavia. In 1949, he began his studies for the Balkanology and Roman Studies at the University of Belgrade. In 1956-1960 he finished the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy at the University of Rome and was appointed as a lecturer of Albanian language in this university. For many years he was the editor of "Shejzat" journal. In 1961 he went to Germany, where he finished his Doctoral Studies in Philology and was appointed, professor of language and literature at the University of Munich in 1965. He was the Head of the Department in 1971-1990. He kept close ties with compatriots through Kosovo and Albanian Diaspora. He died in Lenggries, Germany on 01.03.1992.
