The meeting titled: "Blood Feud and challenges of justice" organised at Shkodra University

The meeting titled: "Blood Feud and challenges of justice" was organised on 14.12.2013 at the Senate Hall of Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi". The initiator of this meeting was the General Prosecutor of Albania. This event was held to highlight the worrying extent that blood feud and isolation is having as well as to prevent this phenomenon that is spread especially in Northern areas.

Taking the floor, the Head of General Attorney of Albania, Mr. Adriatik Llala thanked the attendees and emphasized: "Blood feud is still present. Through this meeting, I want to express the will of the prosecution to stop this phenomenon. We have accurate data for the families involved in blood feuds".

People´s advocate, Mr. Igli Totozani said that he had accepted with a great pleasure the invitation of the Prosecutor of Albania Republic. He added: "The only way to combat the blood feud is the interaction between institutions and civil society. Blood feud and isolation bring the violation of human rights. Consequently, citizens are denied the right of travel, education and vote. I suggest creating an alliance with all actors: religious communities, universities, civil society in order to succeed in struggle”.

During this meeting the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Mr. Nicholas Cannon, President of Shkodra Regional Council, Mr. Maxhid Cungu, and representatives of religious communities had their speeches on this topic.

The dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Shkodra University "Luigj Gurakuqi" Prof.as.dr .Gëzim Dibra said: “This faculty has a counselling centre which has created its own profile and contributions towards the psychological training of students and citizens with various problems. This meeting will create prerequisites for a more sophisticated combination of actions and experiences by stimulating the cooperation among actors who should be active in the process of combating the negative impact of blood feud”.

The Rector of Shkodra University, Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi, the Prefect of Shkodra city, Mr. Paulin Radovani, the Mayor of Shkodra city, Mr. Lorenc Luka, as well as other leading authorities, representatives of courts and prosecution, local and State Police officers participated in this activity.
