Dr. h. c. Doris Pack held an open Lecture at University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi" on 22.09.2014

Dr. h. c. Doris Pack held an open Lecture at the University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi" about Albania's relations with the European Union, as well as future challenges. This event was attended by lecturers and students. Earlier Ms. Doris Pack held a meeting with the Rector, Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi, who gave an overview of the work of the institution he leads and the vision for the future. Mrs. Doris Pack spoke about the opportunities for students´ exchange by applying to study abroad in the framework of the Erasmus+ program.
The event was conceived in the form of an open lecture and it was organized under the auspices of Shkodra Municipality and the University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi”. Mr. Aleksander Marleci, the Head of the International Relations of Shkodra Municipality opened the meeting. He made a brief presentation of the activities done by Ms. Doris Pack, one of the most experienced members of the European Parliament.
Mrs. Doris Pack said that she was pleased to be in Shkodra. In her discussion, she was focused on the past of Albania and the journey of our society from a closed regime to democracy.
She said: “The candidate status given to Albania by the European Union is the result of a long work made by the political spectrum. However it remains a lot to be done primarily in the contexts of the relationship among policymakers”.
Focusing on education issues she said: “I am one of the founders of the Erasmus+ program. This program offers real opportunities to students. Through Erasmus + students can apply nominally by using EU funds. Students can attend a complete master course, they can also get loan from a bank in Albania and EU structures can act as guarantor for this loan. Students begin to pay this loan in the first year of his/her work or can be converted to voluntary work within the European Union”.
The meeting continued with different discussion among professors and students.
After this meeting Mrs. Doris Pack made a visit to the Museum of Memory and Testimony of the communism period.
